A classic fifties portable transistor radio made by Ever Ready finished in tan leatherette with brass trim and all grilles and emblems in place. The radio has been cleaned and serviced and is in fully working condition. Push buttons wave change and controls are in excellent state retaining original brass caps and indicators. There is a minor crack to the white button surround and the odd blemish to the case as you may expect from a 55 year old.
Sound quality is good with solid tone from the Celestion speaker and the radio pulls in many UK and continental stations. Receives MW & LW via the built in aerial and is powered by a PP9 9v battery. There’s an external aerial socket for useful in a classic car. This is a medium sized solid radio – size approx: 25cm wide, 20cm high, 8.5cm deep and weighs 1.7 Kg.
Inside the battery compartment is clean and free from corrosion. This Sky Leader uses Mullard transistors from their OC range (OC44, OC45, OC78D, OC78) that have become popular for their distinctive sound and do not suffer from failure like the latter AF series.
A great example of fifties styling from an early British transistor radio that you can see in TV dramas of the period and that has become very collectible.
