Trying to find a source for Roberts R22 tactile push button caps or the nearest compatible alternative.

If you find a source let us know! The glue often fails a the caps ping away never to be seen again or just a rattle in the vacuum cleaner’s hose. Spinning up spares using a watchmaker’s lathe and anodising is a vocation you may find someone willing to do. Similar problem with the rotary knob caps so always worth looking out for complete radios sold for spares or repair.

Gave up looking for a source and don’t have a lathe. But took one of the intact buttons and from this created a 3d printed copy. Designed to be an interference fit rather than using a clip fit due to inherent weakness at the layer boundaries. The copy is a two part design, the main body in black and the cap in silver silk, simply press the cap on the body and press the body on the switch. The cap has a spiralised surface due to the printing process. May not suit a purist but not having enough intact buttons seemed a suitable solution to make the radio operational.
Obviously, not the same as having original buttons but to improve the look don’t mix and match so they all look the same.
But until I happen to find a complete set of original buttons these will surffice.

That’s a good idea. I’ve not seen silver plastic for 3d printing. Must be tricky getting the interference fit right as the spring recoil action has a habit of pinging the original caps off when the glue fails. Would be nice to see a photo if you get chance and I’ll add to your comment.

Thanks. As with colours these do vary by manufacturer in this case I’m using Sunlu filament. Yes, it did take a few test prints to get the fit. Have included images in the reply email as the comments do not seem to allow images.

Thanks Chris, these look very good. I’ve added your images as this is not available via the comment form.
