ROBERTS R606-MB OLIVE GREEN RETRO TRANSISTOR RADIO
Here’s another Roberts R606-MB portable transistor radio from the seventies. Overall the radio is in good working condition but has a few cosmetic challenges – two top caps are missing from the tuning and treble controls and the front grille does have some light dings. These are fairly common on Roberts radios of this age as the aluminium caps were only glued in place and the glue tends to go brittle and shrink. Front grilles are thin aluminium and easy to dent as is true of the newer R250.
The case is finished in olive green leatherette with real hardwood side panels – an iconic design for Roberts. Top dial is clear with no cracks and has the original station markers. Aerial is original and all push buttons retain their end caps.
Sound quality is excellent with decent volume and bass from the oval speaker – these radios really sound far better than modern digital radios. Receives FM (88-101MHz not the full 108MHz that FM band now occupies), MW & LW via built in aerial. Operates from mains power via two pin plug supplied or 6×1.5v C cell batteries. The battery terminals function well although do have some oxidation. Size approx: 31cm wide, 21cm high, 9cm deep. Weighs 2Kg.
This model has a rotating turntable base for optimum AM reception. There’s an external aerial socket for use in a car and a headphone socket.
